Hot damn! This is one ridiculously good mascara. It does everything I want it to, and none of what I don’t. And… it doesn’t cost the earth. I cannot fathom the negative reviews I’ve read on some of the stockist’s online stores. I am the pickiest consumer out there when it comes to mascara and this is my new favourite! So here I am, evening the score.
Without further ado I give you:
Revlon Ultimate All-In-One Mascara
My love affair with mascara has been rocky. Its more of a love/hate relationship. I can’t live without it, but most mascaras fall well short of what I want them to do. In fact, a lot of them seem set to sabotage the rest of my makeup by smudging, transferring, running or refusing to come off when I do want it to.
Revlon Ultimate All-In-One Mascara is different.
- Flake ( there are some reviews to the contrary – I can only speculate that too much product was applied – or the formula has changed recently)
- Make you pull ‘Mascara Face’ in order to apply it
In fact, it stands up to its claim of ‘5 Lash Transforming Benefits’ in one mascara.
- Rich Intense Colour
It does this by employing what Revlon call a ‘Power Mini Brush.’ Which is marketing jargon for a very small version of a rubberised spooly. The wand is unique in that its hollow. Supposedly to help carry more product to your lashes. From what I can tell though, the product stays in the hollow and never applies to your lashes so is essentially a gimmick. It does a good job however of combing through the product.
I have to say I do love the tiny size of the brush. I’m always on the look-out for weeny mascara wands. Thats a very unpopular opinion from all the other reviews I’ve read. Everyone other than me must enjoy contorting their face to manoeuvre a huge wand into the corners of their eyes and then globbing product all over their eyelids despite the gurning. Big Wand ≠ Big Lashes. Its the formula that does that, honey.
And thats the real genius of Revlon Ultimate All-In-One Mascara. The Formula: Ultra Black, thick yet smooth and containing fibres to add bulk and length. Doesn’t take long to dry, and you can really feel it set and ‘lift.’ If you curl your lashes I imagine this will hold a curl really well. I don’t curl my lashes – they’re curly naturally which is why I have such a problem with mascaras transferring.
The oddly shaped packaging is also kind of genius in that its ergonomic for left or right handed application and the ‘fins’ stop the damn wand from rolling off your vanity if you set it down.
Ok, enough of all that talk…You want to see this baby in action?
Here is Exhibit A: a before photo of my ‘naked’ eye.
Pale skin, light coloured hair and eyes means without mascara my eyes disappear into my head. You can see a colour version of this picture on Instagram.
The definition mascara gives to my face is essential to me looking myself. If you’ve seen the picture of Uma Thurman on the red carpet with minimal eye makeup and strong lips, then you’ll understand just how different one can look without it.
This is ONE COAT.
I wore it all day from about 10am to about 2am the following morning (staring at a bright computer screen makes me wide awake). No smudges. No transferring.
Actually thats a good point: When I work at my computer I’m often looking down then looking up and peering over specs. NOTHING makes mascara transfer more on me. So much so that I normally forgo wearing it on my bottom lashes for fear of creating a semi circle of black mascara ‘freckles’ through out the day as I’m looking down. Not so in this case. Mascara was still perfect in the wee hours and actually came off without any hassle (I used my DHC oil as usual) which was fantastic, because at 2am I wasn’t up for a fight.
