REN Clearcalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser for Blemish Prone Skin
This is a Guest Post by Mr CC
(with a little help from CC)
REN Clarifying Clay Cleanser is a clay based non-foaming face wash designed for skin that can be troubled by blemishes and be sensitive at the same time. Its antibacterial properties, unisex packaging and hygienic airless pump format make it perfect for looking after Men’s skin which can suffer from congestion, ingrown hairs and razor bumps. Its also a great skin cleanser for Women who suffer hormonal breakouts helping to exfoliate dead skin and calm redness – but it does not remove makeup.
This review takes a look at REN Clearcalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser from a man’s point of view.
Why do I need it?
CC: So, Mr CC, why should a Man use the REN Clarifying Clay Cleanser?
Mr CC: Pores. Men have issues with clogged pores.
CC: Why do you think its such an issue with Men?
Mr CC: We’ve been using soap on our faces since day dot. We sweat more. We’re generally dirtier (Man Musk). And we haven’t been washing our faces properly. The dead skin cells and oil build up which is problematic especially when you add shaving to the mix. The art of men’s grooming has been lost. No one learns to shave or take care of their skin properly anymore.
CC: I have two questions: Why is using soap so bad? (I mean, I know why using soap is a hideous idea, but from a man’s perspective…)
Mr CC: Soap dries my skin out making it feel tight. Then I get even oiler. And it wasn’t fixing the problem I had with blackheads on my nose. The blackheads were quite visible and I was self conscious of it. And occasionally I would get breakouts around my mouth.
CC: Ok, my second question: When you were still using soap what was shaving doing to your skin?
Mr CC: When you’re using soap and you’re shaving your face your skin gets even tighter than usual and I would be prone to nasty razor bumps. Consequently I had a permanent 5 o’clock shadow.
CC: So you’ve been using REN Clarifying Clay Cleanser for about 3 years now (having ‘borrowed’ it from me to begin with), what changes have you seen in your skin?
Mr CC: My skin feels calmer and a lot more settled. I don’t get breakouts, my blackheads have considerably improved and my pores are less visible.
CC: Tell me how you’ve been using the REN, because I think a lot of people, even if they do use a good product to wash their face, still don’t wash their face properly.
- I use it in the shower, so if my face is already wet I dry my face and hands on a clean face washer
- I dispense one pump into my hands and gently rub into my skin using fingertips concentrating on my forehead, nose, cheeks and under the corners of my mouth
- Don’t forget your neck! You shave it, so you should wash it!
- Then I wet the face washer with warm water and wring it out so its damp
- Gently rub cleanser off with the damp face washer. The face washer has a slightly rough surface that helps unclog your pores.
- I then rinse my face under the shower.
CC: Do you follow up with anything else after cleansing?
Mr CC: I do. I use REN’s Multi Tasking Aftershave Balm aka moisturiser for men.
CC: And the razor bumps? Have you had any trouble with them since using the Clarifying Clay Cleanser?
Mr CC: No, no trouble but I use a combination of 3 products from REN to stop the razor bumps. The Clarifying Clay Cleanser, The Multi-Tasking Aftershave Balm and the Tamanu High Glide Shaving Oil.
CC: Are you going to help me review those too?
Mr CC: Yes, lets talk about it, because men are filthy and need some pointers.

Where do I get it? / Whats the damage?
REN is exclusively sold by Mecca Cosmetica in Australia. Walk in, find the nearest sales assistant and ask for it by name because sometimes the men’s stuff is in stock but not on display. Guys, don’t freak out. Its not your nanna’s knickers store. The girls in there are really nice, they either assume you’re after something for your girlfriend or need help. You’re not the first guy they’ve seen in their store. Alternatively, buy it from their online store, linked below.
- Australia | Mecca Cosmetica | RRP $46 AUD (about $35US)
- US | Sephora | RRP $32US
- UK | Look Fantastic | RRP £19 (about $28US)
Good skin for the price of a carton of cheap beer and an extra 10 minutes in the bathroom. Well worth it.
