Vani-T Brazilian Bronze 1 Hour Self Tan Mousse
Why do I need it?
By now we all know that real tanning is seriously aging and carcinogenic, right? If you want any colour other than the shade of pale you were born with then you need self tan. For the most part I have never liked self tan. It streaks and the colour looks unnatural on me, being a pale shade of pink that most makeup brands can’t even master in their foundations. Vani-T is different.
After a lot of arm twisting by a past colleague who currently works at David Jones I took the plunge and tried it. The colour is deep and natural looking and even!
Its not often I look like I’ve spent weeks on holiday in the tropics – even if I have, I never look like this! Suffice to say that I am a convert.
It was easy to apply. I got the Vani-T application mitt at the same time and I truly think that made all the difference. Its double sided to you can switch hands or do your own back easily. Its velour rather than foam so feels nice on the skin and blends well. And it has proper bound seams rather than the cheap and crappy heat-bonding you see on a lot of brands – I’m looking at you St Tropez!
The tint in the formula – so you can see where you have been – is so dark I got a little panicky the first time and washed it off after an hour. The colour completely disappeared, but the active ingredient developed the permanent colour over the course of the rest of the day. The tan was even and subtle, but definitely there.
The picture left is after a bit of experimentation. I left it on for 3 hours and this is the final tan the next morning.
To understand just how amazing this result is, you have to see the before/after photo. I purposely didn’t tan my arms at all – although they may have had some residual colour from a light full body application about 4 days earlier. Crazy right?
You know what else is crazy? Kylie Minogue is quoted as saying this is her tan of choice. Dannii also uses it, but really if we’re talking Minogues, I’m with Kylie.
Moisturise your hands (including wrists), feet (including your arch and ankle), knees and elbows first with heavy duty moisturiser – I used pure shea butter – so the product doesn’t ‘grab’ to dry areas. For my hands and face I used a wet Beauty Blender and applied sparingly.

Where do I get it? / Whats the damage?
Mine was purchased from David Jones – full disclosure I was in the store on ‘official business’ for my day job at the time so was offered honorary staff discount. The RRP for Vani-T Brazilian Bronze 1 Hour Self Tan Mousse is $39.95AUD.
I also recommend you get the mitt which retails at $11.95AUD. I tried with my old St Tropez mitt which took twice as long and was twice the hassle and disintegrated in the process. With the Vani-T Mitt things went a lot faster and smoother and I had ZERO hand stainage or streaks.
If you live outside of Australia, as most people do, visit the Vani-T website for stockists.
